Name: J.J. Slag (really).
Family: I have been married to Marissa since 1998. We have three kids; the boy, the girl, and the baby.
Ministry Role: I do anything that no one else wants to do…and then some more. I’m also the “Complaint Department” which is great because I get to fix what isn’t working!
Education: BA North Central University. MA Bethel University. In process on MATS from Southwestern University.
Favorite Movies: I have loved the “Star Wars” franchise since I was a kid. I also really liked M. Night Shyamalan’s “Signs.”
Things that fascinate me: My wife still fascinates me every day.
People I would most like to meet: Jesus, C.S. Lewis, the Yeti.
One thing most people don’t know about me: I’m a complete introvert. If I wasn’t in ministry I would be stockpiling food and supplies in a mountain cabin.
How long I’ve been in ministry: Full time since 1996. I was a youth pastor for about 11 years before beginning my current position.
When and where did you get saved? I gave my life to Christ as a child, and then about 300 times in high school and early college, and finally again on February 15, 1992.
Life-changing moment: We went in to get blood work and shots for a mission trip and the nurse told my wife that the shots were not healthy for a pregnant woman. My wife said, “I’m not pregnant”…
Fears: Spending too much of my life on insignificant activities.
Quirks: I steal food from other people’s plates. And I’m obsessed with my weight.
In my spare time: I read, run, and paint.
Least favorite food: I never met a food that I didn’t like.
What makes you laugh? I really love awkward moments. When I get bored I create them for others.
Favorite scripture verse: Currently: Micah 6:8 “And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
Life motto: “Just don’t screw it up.”
My hero: Jesus.
Favorite music or band: I like 80s rock ballads.
